Jacqueline Fernandez, a Sri Lankan actor from Bahrain's Manama was raised in an ethnically diverse family. Jacqueline's father Elroy Fernandez is from Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. Her siblings include two brothers and an older sister. In the 80s, her parents emigrated to Bahrain in protest against the civil war in Sri Lanka. As a result, she was both born and raised in Bahrain. After completing high school in Bahrain she won a Scholarship to the University of Sydney to pursue an Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. She went to the Berlitz School of Languages which allowed her to improve her French, Arabic and Spanish. In 2006, she won Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March 2006, and was also a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. Following her win of the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she stepped into the world of television. She hosted a program about Sri Lanka's business, called Lanka Business Report. Padukone was born to badminton star Prakash Padukone. She was raised in Bangalore and was born in Copenhagen. When she was a teenager she played in national level badminton events, but she backed off the sport and became a designer. Padukone is of Mangalorean roots and speaks Konkani as her native language. Her lineage hails from Padukone village, which is located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District in the State of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone has retired as a world-renowned athlete in badminton, while her mother is also a travel consultant.
